Breaking Down Aerosmith’s ‘Cryin’
By Ilan Adler
For those who grew up in the 1990’s, music videos by Aerosmith were a staple of our MTV viewing habits. Whether it was the Bonnie & Bonnie hotness of Liv Tyler and Alicia Silverstone in the ‘Crazy‘ music video, Edward Furlong from T2: Judgement Day starring in ‘Livin’ on the Edge‘, The weirdness of fake computer generated people, the power glove, and Silverstone being smoking hot in the ‘Amazin‘ rock ballad. But above all of these stands the famous (and most viewed) Cryin’ video.
This video was Silverstone’s ticket to fame, which would peak two years later with the brilliant teen film, “Clueless“. However there has always been one thing that bothered me about this clip, and I had to write about it.
At 03:23 of the above clip, the Silverstone character is sitting all alone at a cheap diner. Now as I mentioned before this is Alicia Silverstone at the peak of her hotness, she’s just super hot in these Aerosmith clips. Some guy is sitting across from her and they’re having some major flirty eye contact, as in Silverstone is totally coming on to him. She gets up to leave him some space to come in and talk, and the idiot just swipes her bag and runs. He then gets chased down by Silverstone and gets his ass kicked, but swiping the bag instead of continuing to flirt with Silverstone has to be in the Hall of Fame of idiot moves.
Seriously dude, how much money do you think she had in there, 20 dollars?!? This is a woman who just left her car and all her possessions by the side of the road, I really don’t think she’s swimming in money in her current situation. That guy deserves another ass-kicking just for his shortsightedness, he’d rather rob a smoking hot blonde woman, rather than court company with her, which in her current situation is something she is definitely up for.
End of random rant about this 40 second scene from “Cryin”. Whatever you guys think, all I know is that the score at the end of the clip is, Silverstone 1 – Stupid dudes 0. Who ever knew there could be so much feminism in an Aerosmith music video?
